Termites

Termites are a real problem and they can cause significant damage to your home. But you can take steps to help prevent a termite infestation or get rid of one that has already developed.

Subterranean termites are primarily underground and live in colonies. They create tunnels in the soil to access wood and store food and eggs.

They are also able to tunnel through non-cellulosic materials such as plastic, foamboard and sheet rock. They are also able to enter homes through cracks and crevices in the foundation or where utilities enter the house.

Workers, Soldiers and Reproductives

Termites have a caste system that divides them into workers, soldiers and reproductives (Figures 2 and 3). All termite species share this system of hierarchies, with the lowest level consisting of sexually immature termites that work together to build nests, find food and care for young.

The next level are the soldier termites, the largest members of a colony. These termites guard their colony, have longer bodies and larger heads, and have well-developed mandibles for defense. They are the ones you are likely to see when uncovering a termite infestation in your home.

Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are tiny blood-sucking insects that are less than 1/4 inch (6 mm) long. They are commonly found in hotel rooms, hostels, and other places where people sleep.

If you have a bed bug infestation, your best bet is to seek professional help from a licensed Pest Control in Beaumont TX. They can quickly remove these pesky pests and prevent future outbreaks.

Bites from a bed bug can be itchy, red, and look like mosquito or flea bites. The itching is a normal reaction to the bite.

But some people may develop allergic reactions to their bites. These symptoms include enlarged bite marks and painful swellings at the bite site.

Constance Forward has been living at Creekwood Village Apartments for about two weeks, but she recently got bitten by bed bugs. She said that shortly after her window unit was installed, she started getting itchy red bumps.

Rodents

Rodents are warm-blooded mammals that can be found all over the world. Their most important feature is the specialized structure of their teeth and jaws that enable them to gnaw.

The order Rodentia is home to the common mice and rats we see in and around our homes and businesses. These are commensal rodents that live among us and eat our food.

Many species are solitary, but others live in small groups or families. They forage, defend their territory and raise their young together.

Some family units are monogamous (males and females mate with only one other), while others are polygynous (both males and females mate with multiple partners).

Fossorial rodents, such as blind mole rats, blesmols and ground squirrels, have cylindrical bodies with a narrow neck. They have protruding, strong incisors and large forefeet bearing powerful digging claws that they use to excavate tunnels in the ground.

Spiders

Spiders are arachnids, and they’re related to mites, ticks, and scorpions. They are good for the environment because they eat insects, reducing the number of bloodsucking insects that can cause stings, bites, and other problems.

They’re also helpful in preventing pests from entering your home, such as moths, flies and mosquitoes. They’re also very cute!

In Texas, we have many different types of spiders. Two of the most common are black widows and brown recluse spiders.

Black widows have a distinctive red hourglass shape on the underside of their abdomen. Younger black widows may have additional red or white markings on the back, but they’re not venomous.

Brown recluse spiders are a bit smaller than black widows and have a dark brown to black fiddle-shaped pattern on their head. Their venom can cause local or systemic reactions. They’re a common household pest in many homes in the area. They can be found hiding between boards, boxes and old towels or clothes in dark places.
